Morning Glory

I came back from walking our dog in the morning, opened our backyard door to get in. Right behind the door in a dark corner, I saw this flower shining bright - back lit by fresh morning sun. I couldn't resist taking a picture! I tried some different ways to get texture in the background, wasn't quite happy. However a good learning experience!

Asparagus - SOLD

This is my very first piece with Watercolor and Ink. I painted it on request of my friend and collector of my paintings. She had a similar piece with Celery and wanted a companion piece with Agparagus. So I made an attempt, and it turned out fabulous, this was immediately liked by my friend too and she bought it!!

In the Woods 2 - SOLD

I painted "In the Woods 2" to present a different perspective of the forest. My client suggested minor changes in my earlier painting - In the Woods. I did those and then thought I would create another view of the forest, to give a choice. But **SURPRISE** she liked both my versions of In the Woods and bought them both together!!
The painting looks different in different light conditions - the first is a picture in normal room in daylight, the second one is when painting is placed under light.

Here is one more water color magic experiment. I used lot of salt and alcohol for the texture in the background.
As I walked, each step was making sound - krrrr.. krrr... krrr... due to the dried leaves that had fallen on the ground. And looking up, the sky was lit with colors. Enjoyed the hike throughly!!

Now I am itching to do oil paint, have been away from it for quite a while...

Day 21 - 30 Paintings in 30 days Jan 2014 - From a Bee's Eye View

It had been long time since I worked with watercolors and I was tempted to paint my favorite subject - flowers. This time it is a view I presume bees or butterflies would be able to see through their eyes as they fly for honey towards the center of the flower. It turned out to be very soft colors, I like it!

Hibiscus - SunNShade

A flower from my backyard - Hibiscus in Sun and Shade.
I have 2 different colors of Hibiscus plants, this one is red and second one is Orange. Next time I paint Hibiscus flower, I will try the other one!

Day 30 - 30 Paintings in 30 days - Diwali Light

I am getting into celebration mood now - Diwali - Festival of Lights!
This picture was taken at our home last year during Diwali and I tried it using Watercolor.

Rocks And Stream

Last Saturday - March 2nd, I participated in one day Watercolor workshop by renowned artist - Geri Medway. It was organized by Saddleback Art League. It is the first time I have taken watercolor class and I was so very happy. I came to know the importance of using good paper. I usually use Strathmore paper which is easily available, but the supply list strictly mentioned NO Strathmore... But after using Arches, I realized how wonderful the experience was using this paper, even though my brushes were not up to par! Good watercolor brushes are very very important as well.
There were 2 projects to choose from - Yellow Rose with lots of droplets and Rocks n Stream. My first impulse was to choose Rose, since I love florals. But I decided to use Rocks n Stream since there were different techniques to be learnt here. In the Rocks project, there was a great deal of negative painting and learning to create textures using resist, splattering using toothbrush, spray etc. I must say that my resist did not work quite well, so I could not get the water splashing against the rocks. In oils I would have done that as a last thing, but in watercolors the first was getting the watersplash right by using the resist. I am still very happy with the result. Below is my finished painting.
Now that I have professional watercolors and paper etc, I hope to indulge into watercolors whenever possible ...
